How Much Should A Diamond Engagement Ring Cost?

How Much Should A Diamond Engagement Ring Cost?

Oh the €50 million dollar question!  Having spent many years helping couples choose their engagement ring would you believe me if I said there is no average cost, not even close to an average.  And to be really honest, it’s never about the cost but more about the future sentimental value that this prized possession will hold.

Now I know that sounds cheesy and perhaps a little idealistic but it is always at the centre of my dealings with customers.  That doesn’t mean I will offer rings that are wildly expensive or insultingly low value.  It’s always about striking the balance between achieving the perfect ring, i.e. design, quality, durability and price (all without actually talking about cost or money) 30 years in the business makes you almost telepathic about how much a customer wants to spend!

It’s overwhelming when you are looking to buy an engagement ring in Ireland these days.  Twenty years ago you would walk into two or three shops and choose from a handful of designs, now you are bombarded by Tik Toks, Reels, tailored ads along with AI and who knows what’s next.  So what remains the same? Building trust between the jeweller and the customer.  It’s the one constant that won’t ever change and if anything is becoming more important with so much misinformation and false advertising.

However much you are spending on your engagement ring you want to make sure you are getting value for money, you are getting exactly what you are paying for, which means always look for certifications and a valuation for insurance purposes and lastly, you can trust the person you are purchasing the ring from.

While many people ask me how much should an engagement ring cost, I always say that €1,000 to one person is the equivalent of €10,000 to someone else.   We put the exact same effort into our consultation process no matter how much the ring costs.

So enjoy the process of engagement ring shopping and remember you are worth every bit of the diamond you are buying.
