An exquisite engagement ring makeover

An exquisite engagement ring makeover

It always gives us great joy at Lorimat Jewellers to see somebody leave our shop at 24 Patrick Street in Kilkenny, delighted with a new engagement ring. Those people aren’t always newly-engaged brides-to-be, however – because thanks to our expert ring re-design service, many others go home with an engagement ring that’s virtually new too.

There are many reasons to have your engagement ring re-designed. Maybe a stone has come loose over the years, and you’d like a new setting to make it more secure in future. Maybe your personal tastes have changed, and you’d like your engagement ring to reflect them better.

Or maybe you’ve just come into some money, and you’d like to spend some of it on some extra ‘bling’!

Whatever the reason, our expert ring re-design service can give you just what you’re looking for, and we’d like to share with you the story of one recent customer who was overjoyed with her new-look ring.

She’d had a solitaire diamond engagement ring for approximately ten years, and wanted to give it a facelift. She’d been looking at other designs on Pinterest and other social media sites, and brought us in some pictures, which was a great help in allowing us understand what she was hoping for. We had a thorough consultation and agreed on the design, and this in turn allowed us to give her a full quotation for the work before it began.

In essence, our customer went from having a solitaire diamond ring to having an ornate halo cluster one, with no less than 24 additional diamonds around the existing one, and even more in a split shank on both shoulders of the band.

She loved the split shank idea, but we were careful not to make it too wide, in line with her own personal tastes. She also loved the ‘cushion’ halo style, which gives a lovely soft effect around the centre diamond.

One of the reasons this customer wanted a ring re-design was because she previously caught one of the claws, and she was afraid she might end up losing the diamond. For peace of mind and added durability, we added a bezel setting to the centre diamond (with platinum around the diamond itself), to eliminate the danger of the ring catching in clothes or anything else.

The addition of the 24 new round brilliant cut diamonds around the centre stone really gave that extra sparkle that the customer was looking for. These diamonds were set in a micro-claw setting with an outer rim of platinum, to again provide more durability.

We then finished off the ring with millgrain detail (the small beading effect around the diamonds) to give a real vintage-style touch.

We and our customer agreed the final result was spectacular. We’re proud of our work, and she’s delighted to have a virtually new ring to wear!
